Hydrilla plant comments on its aquatic adaptation
🌱Hydrilla verticillata is a submerged, rooted aquatic plant that can grow in water up to depths of 20 ft.
They have tiny leaves with serrations along their margins.
The leaves are grouped together in a bunch.
They have slender, long and spongy stems that move freely along the water current.
Stomata are absent as no transpiration occurs inside water .
Hydrilla lacks cuticle as they are found inside water no need to prevent any water - loss.
The plant body produce mucilage to prevents it from rotting.
Aerenchyma tissue provide buoyancy to plants
Vallisneria Aquatic adaptation
Leaves of vallisneria are thin and long tape-like to sustain plant in water and absorb maximum light .
Their leaves lack stomata.
The hydrophytes have aerenchyma cells to help in buoyancy.
In Vallisneria, pollination and fertilisation occurs with the help of water . This is called hydrophilly.
